Memo Report on Rhetorical Choices This memo report, written to me, should show me that you know how to determine an employer’s needs, values, and attitudes pertaining to a specific position. This information is the key to crafting a rhetorically effective cover letter and resume. Sources such as the company’s website or other literature may help you to figure out these needs, attitudes, and values, but remember that the most important document to study is the description of the position itself. In roughly 750 words, explain to me how your rhetorical scrutiny of all this information led you to make specific choices when writing a persuasive cover letter and resume. For example: “After my research, I felt that creativity was almost as important to this employer as education. For that reason, I discuss projects that demonstrate my creative potential in my cover letter’s second paragraph, immediately following my description of how my education meets their stated requirements.” An effective memo report should give me a window into your rhetorical thinking and decision-making. Role Description As a tax intern at BBD, you will learn tax return preparation and research through on-the-job and formal classroom training.
