Mentoring Program to Reintegrate Ex-Prisoner onto the Community

The US Departement of Justice has announced that is it seeking applications for funding mentoring grants to nonprofits. The grants are based upon Public Law 110-199, the Second Chance Act of 2007, which authorizes grants to nonprofits from prison into the community. The program components must include mentoring prisoners during incarceration through the transition back to the community. Mentoring is defined loosely; it can be a one on one or a small group relationship, but it must take place in both prerelease and postrelease environments. Nonprofits can provide transitional services, which can include but are not limited to these program components: prerelease mentoring relationship, housing, education, substance abuse treatment, mental health treatment, family reunification, job training, and case management.
