Mini Case 5.1: Delay in Software Roll Out An Enterprise Resource Planning System project was initiated and planned in the US headquarters. The new ERP system was to be rolled out in international subsidiaries, for instance in the company's factories in France. Much to the annoyance of the project manager, an overall delay of 12 months occurred with the French roll out due to the following problems: 1. Local factories in France had additional requirements for the ERP system. Some of these factories also produced for the defence sector. Hence, strict specifications and security rules applied to those sites. 2. The requirements among the local factories in France differed because the sites manufactured a variety of products. Some factories stored chemicals which needed to be treated away from other materials. Expiry dates needed to be entered into the system. Special disposal rules also had to be followed.
