A US$-$American manager was leading a project to build an interface for a US and Japanese customer$-$data system. During the implementation phase she worked closely on site with the Japanese team and discovered several problems in the system which could have a severe impact on company operations. Due to the severity of the issue, she quickly informed her superior in the US via e$-$mail,

copying this to her Japanese team members. While her boss was happy about the early warning, she could feel that something was wrong between her and her team members in Tokyo. She had the impression that information was being withheld from her. Some documents were not translated into English, and people tried to
