Module One - Case Study - Google

In 2014, Google reported it was 61.3 percent white and 69.4 percent male. Fast forward to today and Google is 54.4 percent white and 68.4 percent male.

In 5 years there have been few changes in this high tech firm in terms of improving diversity.

One of the considerations analysts are asked to consider is to be customer-focused and value-driven. Customer focus includes both internal and external customers. To be value driven you have to know the values of the organization.

Googles - 10 Core Values

1. Focus on the user and all else will follow.
2. Its best to do one thing really, really well.
3. Fast is better than slow.
4. Democracy on the web works.
5. You dont need to be at your desk to need an answer.
6. You can make money without doing evil.
7. Theres always more information out there.
8. The need for information crosses all borders.
9. You can be serious without a suit.
10. Great just isnt good enough.

Objectives:

• define the role of a business analyst in terms of identifying and comprehending stakeholders' needs.
• identify the key business analyst responsibilities in each of the knowledge areas.

Actions to be taken:

1. Based on the Google's statistics and their core goals what are the options Google must analyze? Doing nothing is always a consideration? Prepare a recommendation for Google as to what they should do based on their current statistics. You have basically two choices:

1. Do Nothing

2. Do Something

We know analysts analyze existing business conditions and help to make recommendations as to whether the business should take additional action to successful.

2. What information and process would you use to decide what recommendation you would make?

3. Remember you are not making recommendation as to what changes Google should make, you are merely conducting enough analysis and research to recommend either option 1 or option 2. Whatever option you recommend should have information and data to substantiate your analysis. Please submit your recommendation and your analysis.
