Moises and Class: Your comments reminded me that many organizations are now using the term inclusiveness along with diversity and equity.
Inclusiveness is about an inviting environment for talent from all backgrounds as well as the equal opportunity for each person to succeed in a way that works for them. Inclusiveness makes room, not for different people to take a shot at the same definition of success, but for different people to actually create different definitions of success. (Reeves, as cited in The Center for Legal Inclusiveness, n.d., para. 1)
While diversity refers to an organization employing people with different backgrounds, races, ethnicities, genders, ages, religions, etc. It may also encompass various attitudes, personalities, learning styles, education levels, and other secondary differences. Inclusiveness goes one step beyond diversity in that the perspectives and contributions of employees are respected at all levels (The Center for Legal Inclusiveness, n.d.). Diversity deals with employee characteristics, compliance with US laws, recruiting and hiring. Inclusiveness goes further, dealing with how employees are accepted and treated within the workforce.
