A tall organization is not without its disadvantages as well. Due to the many levels of hierarchy communication could be an issue among them. The administrative costs associated with a tall organization can be higher as well. A flat organization is one that is made up of fewer levels in the hierarchy and it has a wider span of control from the top to the bottom. A flat organization can hold many advantages They tend to have lower administrative costs than a tall organization does because fewer levels of hierarchy call for fewer mangers and support personnel. These organizations also tend to be able to work more effectively in a dynamic environment. They also have decentralized decisions making which allows for more authority for managers on different levels. There are disadvantages for a flat organization to take into account as well. Although decentralization can be a good thing for a flat organization it can pose a disadvantage as well. It can be difficult when it comes to holding accountability when poor decisions are made which in turn can result in poor coordination across different parts of the organization.
