QUESTION:

Building an information system requires an understanding of the organization's needs. Discuss the central organizations' factors to consider when building an information system. Pick one factor and apply it to your past, current, or professional experience.

MY RESPONSE:

When picking an information system you have to look at all factors such as company goals, user needs and skills, and cost and value. "Information systems contain information about significant people, places, and things within the organization or in the environment surrounding it$."($Laudon$,2021).$ In the process of building the system, the system should align with the companies goals for short term and long term and should be efficient. When designing anything I strongly believe that you will have the most success when the system or site is user friendly. Having an understanding of what your customers want will set you up for success when building a new system. Lastly, cost and value, building an information system can become expensive so it is in your companies best interest to have a solid plan and process to execute this system.

In the past, I used to work as a server at a huge resort called Shangri$-$La in Grove, Oklahoma. Our goal as a company$/$team was to always find better ways to satisfy our customers. Shangri$-$La is a resort that is open to the public but also offers the opportunity to become a member. When members would come into eat and drink they had the option to charge the account or pay outright. If they decide to charge the account all they had to do was give me a $4$ digit pin and I had access to all of their information. This made it much easier to keep business flowing. I knew who the members were and I knew who the guests were. I do believe that this simple change played a huge part in why Shangri$-$La is successful.
