CASE STUDY: My name is Priscilla, and I am the co-owner of a bread and butter franchise here in Muscat. My ownership involves 70% of the business and 30% is owned by my Omani local partner Shehab, who is only responsible for the 30% of the business that he owns. This was a perfect business ownership situation for me being a non-local. Mr. Shehab, also my friend is a full-time employee at a private organization here in Oman and his working hours do not allow him the opportunity to be involved with the business activities and functions by any means, which works perfectly for what I am seeking. Our business is a boutique caf and bakery focused on specific-specialty baking. Our customers are much targeted and include those who are looking for preservative-free, gluten-free, keto and other kinds of specialty and focused kind of baking's. We currently have a total of two boutiques locally, one with a kitchen and one is mainly caf focused where we only supply our baking made in the central caf and bakery in Shatti Al-Qurm. Our employees include a total of ten people. We have allocated six staff including the Chef in the main caf & bakery, and four staff in the caf. Including myself, I am the Creative Director of the business and I have two caf managers looking over the everyday functions of the business for each store. The managers are business bachelor graduates who are not certified, caf managers. I have interviewed the two managers personally and trained with them at several international workshops in Dubai and Kuwait on Food and Beverage Management (F&B). The store managers are very well-orientated and have the required skills to make effective managers. The training and development workshops we attended together have helped the managers develop an understanding of overall management functions applied to the F&B industry. As a creative managing director, I overlook the overall management activities including strategic planning as well as everyday functional and tactical planning of the business. The direct line managers of both stores are mainly responsible for the everyday functions of the business. The store managers are well informed both academically and scientifically on the various business management functions and systems. I and the two caf managers have undergone several workshops on how to manage a dynamic and changing business environments realizing that management is not only a science but also an art. In relation to the management functions, I prefer to keep the communication line as transparent as possible between myself as the creative director manager, the managers and all staff. This approach helps us collaborate more effectively and efficiently and enhances the process of decision making.
