Needs & Task Analysis Qualitative Data Collection
Nail technician
School custodian
Fishmonger
Think about how you would gather data about these jobs and the skills these people need to master to be successful performers. An analogy that may help is picturing yourself as needing to explain to someone who has zero information or knowledge of these jobs what skills these people have (or should have) and how to they perform well versus perform poorly. Of course, since this is an exercise in qualitative data, no surveys will be considered. One way I like to frame these things is: What do you want to know? How do you want to know it? Think about how you would gather data, avoid the easy way out, such as, I would ask them what skills they need. That sort of strategy is not nuanced enough to truly understand the work they do.
