NMAP is short for Network Mapper. As you can guess, it is used to map networks to identify what devices are running, discovering hosts and services that are available. It is also used to identify any open ports and security risks. conduct a simple scan and evaluate the output results.

NMAP Exercise

• Open Nmap.
• In the Target enter scanme.nmap.org
• Select Regular Scan from the Profile drop down menu.
• Click Scan.

1. Select a minimum of two of the displayed ports and what they are normally used for on a network.
2. Explain/define all the States listed in the output.
3. Select a minimum of two of the displayed services and explain/define what the service is and does.
