Notwithstanding such changes, attorneys too often push interpretations of the rules to and sometimes beyond the edges of interpretation. The court faced such a situation in Liguria Foods, Inc. v. Griffith Laboratories, 320 FRC 168 (ND Iowa 2017, copy available in this module).you should read the opinion and answer the following questions:

1. What was the underlying dispute between the parties (what was the lawsuit about)?
2. What actions by the attorneys for both parties caused Judge Bennett to issue orders to show cause why they had should not be sanctioned?
3. What rule or rules did the judge say had been violated? Indicated both the rule number and provide a brief summary of the content of that rule.
4. How did each of the attorneys respond to the order to show cause?
5. What did the judge ultimately order? Did he order sanctions against the attorneys? What rationale did the provide for his ruling? Do you find his rationale persuasive?
