Objective: In this lab you will be investigating the motion of a toy car and determining the speed at which it is travelling. Materials: ticker tape timer 1m of ticker tape toy car meter stick small piece of scotch tape Procedure: 1) Collect the materials. Tape the ticker tape to the back of the toy car. 2) Find a place to carry out your experiment. You need an outlet and at least one meter of floor/counter space. 3) Feed the ticker tape through the timer, holding the car above the floor, turn on the car. Turn on the timer and then gently release the car. 4) Once the tape has run through the timer, catch the car and turn it and the timer off. 5) Complete a data table by measuring both the total distance travelled and the interval distance for each 0.1 s interval (every 6th dot). Include at least 60cm worth of your data. Experimental Design: Manipulated variable: Responding variable: . . Controlled variables: Observations: Data table on back of this page Analysis: 1. Create a graph of the position vs time. 2. Determine the speed of the car using the slope of your line of best fit. Show your calculation
