Question:
On his first day as an Aircraft Maintenance Project Manager, Santiago Rello was asked a question he was not sure how to answer. One of his team members—himself new to serving on a project team— asked Santiago an interesting question: "How do we know when we are successful?" Santiago was taken aback by the question. In fact, he had been so focused on selecting team members, establishing a budget, and developing a schedule that he had not even thought about how his team's performance would be evaluated. To himself Santiago said, "That's a good question, and I need to know the answer." To his team member he said, "Good question. Let's talk about it later today." As soon as he could get away, Santiago went to the office of a colleague who was an experienced project manager and placed the question before him.
In this scenario, Santiago Rello is a new project manager who is feeling a little overwhelmed by his new responsibilities. When asked a fairly basic question by a team member, he is unable to answer it. If Santiago came to you with this question, how would you recommend he answer it?
