Once a case record is created in the Laboratory Information Network $($IIN$)$ system of U$.$S$.$ Customs and Border Protection, the laboratory to which the case is assigned will determine, based on the task requirements and the laboratory's current capabilities, if it can perform the analysis. If it is determined that the laboratory can fulfill the request,

L$.$IN serves as a case management tool by assigning the testing and analysis to a scientist based on the scientist's area of expertise.

From the information given above, it can be validly concluded that, relative to the LIN,

A$)$ if testing and analysis in a case cannot be assigned to an individual scientist based on the scientist's field of expertise, then it has been determined that the laboratory cannot perform the analysis pertinent to the case

B$)$ it is determined that the analysis pertaining to a case cannot be performed by a laboratory if the analysis can be assigned to an individual scientist based on the scientist's area of expertise

C$)$ if it is determined that a laboratory can perform the analysis pertaining to an individual case, the analysis may not be assigned to a scientist based on the scientist's field of expertise

D$)$ in some cases, the determination that a laboratory can perform the analysis pertaining to an individual case does not imply that the analysis will be assigned to any individual scientist based on the scientist's area of expertise

E$)$ when testing and analysis in a case cannot be assigned to any scientist based on each scientist's area of expertise, the laboratory may still be able to perform all relevant analyses
