Overview:

This assignment requires you to deliver a $4-6$ minute How$-$To Speech. Specifically, you

will be teaching the audience how to perform a task or action. You may choose to

explain any $($legal$)$ topic, but keep the time limit in mind. You will not be able to explain

something very complex in $4-6$ minutes, but overly simplistic topics won$$t work either.

You should also choose a topic that you can represent visually, either by performing the

action yourself or using images, diagrams, etc.

These speeches will be presented in class.

You must include the $4$ elements of how$-$to presentations:

$$ Desired outcome: what you are teaching the audience to do

$$ Prerequisites: what the audience needs to have$/$know in order to complete

the task

$$ Interim steps: what the audience needs to do to complete the task

$$ Unwanted actions: things that the audience should avoid

Your audience is anyone who would Google $$how to$$ perform the action you are

teaching.

Speech Specifics:

$$ Length: $4-6$ minutes. If you are more than $2$ minutes over the time limit$,$ I will

$($politely$)$ interrupt your speech and you will lose $10$ points. You will also lose

$10$ points for being $2$ or more minutes under time.

$$ Include an introduction with an attention grabber, credibility statement, and

thesis statement

$$ Include a conclusion with a summary of the main idea and a clincher

$$ Include the $4$ elements of how$-$to presentations

$$ Provide adequate detail and explanation

$$ Visuals must enhance audience understanding

$$ Use extemporaneous delivery

$**$You MUST have your topic approved by me in order to receive credit for

this presentation. If you get a topic approved and then want to switch to a

different topic, you must resubmit the topic form
