Question: Pam and Debra both lived in the same small town ( Columbia ) all of their lives. Pam and Debra never got along with each
Pam and Debra both lived in the same small town Columbia all of their lives. Pam and Debra
never got along with each other. They competed with each other for parts in school plays, sought
after the same boyfriends, and ran against each other for student government offices. After
graduating from high school, Pam went away to a college in another state. While there, Pam
worked as an exotic topless dancer to earn money to pay for her education. After graduating
from college Pam then remained and lived in the other state for years. During that time she
opened and successfully operated her own business. However, Pam missed her family and the
small town atmosphere of Columbia. Therefore, Pam has now relocated to Columbia and has
opened another business which is doing well as did her prior business.
Debra, on the other hand, remained in Columbia, married a doctor, and is raising a family. Debra
and her husband are quite affluent and are considered to be in the inner social circle of Columbia.
Wishing to reacquaint herself with those in Columbia, and also wishing to make business
contacts Pam has applied to the Columbia Womens League Debra is the President of the
league.
Upon receipt of Pams application, per the bylaws of the league, Debra stood in the next
meeting of the league and read the application before the members present. The bylaws of the
league provide that an application is to be read before members and then an applicant is elected
to membership by a majority vote.
However, after reading the application Debra also said the following:
You all know that I have known Pam all of our lives. You should also know that
Pam is a tramp who stripped for money, and that she ran her prior business into the
ground. I dont think she is the type that we want in our organization.
With that being said, the members of the league have denied Pams application for membership.
