Part 1: Interview four children different ages (between 3-14) about their friendships. Ask:

1. 1. 1. What is a friend?
      2. How do you become friends?
      3. Describe your friends.
      4. Do you have a friend who is a [opposite sex]?
      5. How old are your friends?
      6. How many friends do kids your age usually have?
      7. Who were their best friends at school last year?
      8. Who are their best friends this year. If they changed, ask them why.

Part 2: After you complete the interviews,

• • • Research the stages of friendships
    • Write up a summary of their responses and then respond to the following:
    • Choose children of different ages and peer status.
    • Did you find an age or status trend? Discuss your results.
    • Do your results match the research?
    • What new information did you learn from the children?
