PART II Reflection and Course Tie-In
After four or more sessions with your mentor, include the following in a write-up that you will save in a .pdf format and submit in the appropriate Mentoring Assignment Part II Submission folder found in the Assignments folder. You will find the due date in the submission folder. You will also find it in an information box in Topic 12.
In your write-up, please use the task numbers listed below.
1a,1b,2.
Copy and paste the information that you submitted for tasks 1a,1b, and 2. If you made any changes to the information originally submitted, please highlight the changes in yellow.
3. Write a brief sentence describing the continuation or closure of your formal mentoring relationship. Note: some formal mentoring relationships continue for many months or years, and some continue informally. However, after the first four (or more) sessions, and then periodically after that, you should discuss the continuation or closure of the relationship.
[1 marks]
4. List the meetings in the following table. (Add rows if needed.) Copy and paste to your write-up: [3 marks]
Meeting Date
Meeting Length (in minutes)
Method (in-person, video, )
5. For each of the meetings listed in the table summarize, in a paragraph or more, the main points of the discussion. In particular, discuss the particular ideas/advice that the mentor gave you pertaining to your SMART goals, along with your reflection on the suggestions were they implemented (why or why not) and what was the result? (What were the practical steps that you took? Next steps? etc.) I should be able to see a progression towards realizing your goals as I read through the discussions from meeting to meeting. [10 points]
6. Reflect on:
whether you accomplished the goals or not, according to your M measurements, and the reasons (if you were not able to accomplish them).
what you would do differently, next time, to either better accomplish the goals or to take them to the next level (e.g. make them more challenging, etc.)
[6 points]
7. Describe how your goals, and what you learned, tie-in with the theory in the text Readings, class discussions, and other materials. (You should look for two or more tie-ins.) Reference the Readings as (RX.X, p.xx) or PowerPoints as TX.Sxx (e.g. T2.S10 means Topic 2, slide 10). You only need to include a bibliography if you reference any other source. [5 points]
8. Download and complete boxes 1,2,3,5,6,7,8 of the DC Activity Submission Form. Have your mentor sign in box 7. List the activity as X mentoring sessions (replacing the X with the appropriate number). The date will indicate when your mentor signed. (Note: if your relationship with your mentor is a distant one i.e. you are video conferencing with someone who is living in a different province or country then an email to you, from them, acknowledging their participation in the assignment, along with an indication of how many sessions they had with you and their time length will be sufficient. In that case, save the email in a pdf format and upload it into the submission folder.)[2 marks]
NOTES
Note the submission dates for the two parts of this assignment, found in the information boxes in Topics 4 and 12 or in the Assignments folder.
For maximum marks, make sure that the sessions are spread out over several weeks, (suggestion: one per week). Do not try to do them all in a couple of weeks.
When submitting Part II, make sure that you have:
o The write-up, with all points numbered, as in the instructions above. (Remember to also include 1a,1b, and 2 from your Part I submission.) Save in a .pdf format.
o Your completed DC Activity form, with your mentors signature. Save in a .pdf format.
o An email from your mentor only if you were not able to acquire their signature. Save in a .pdf format.
Assignments can be submitted earlier than the due date. The instructor reserves the right to mark the assignment as soon as it is submitted, or later, including after the final submission date.
10% per day, or part thereof, will be deducted for each business day that the assignment is late. Marks may also be deducted for poor grammar, spelling mistakes, missing parts, or not following the format described above.
