Operations Management is relevant to managers as they play an important role in executing and accomplishing the goals of the company. The way in which a company is run is due to the operations management and how they decide to organize the production and distribution of the products the company produces. In this process, managers are crucial to the success of the organization since their role involves both managing personnel and managing the firm (Jacobs, 2013).

In my current role, I am responsible for interacting and navigating marketing, financial, personnel, and purchasing functions. As a director I work with the marketing department to make sure the message we are sending out in written form is what is experienced by patients and families. I am responsible for the budget in my department and making sure we not only meet it but exceed it where we can. I interact with all the personnel in my department, I hire and relive people of their duties, I also work to educate and provide them all that is necessary for their success. As part of maintaining the budget, I play a role in how we purchase and monitor our supplies. Interacting at this level has given me a greater understanding of the operations manager as they delegate to the other managers. A key to success is understanding both roles and how the success of one is dependent on the other. Good communication is key in both roles and being willing to ask the questions to gain understanding is an important part.
