Purpose:

The goal of the assignment is to have you conduct an HR planning exercise for an organization $($the choice of organization is yours $-$ it may be for profit, not for profit, charity, government, etc.$).$ The report should detail both the process and the results of the HR planning activities you conduct. It should show how you have applied your HR planning knowledge and skills, including:

Understanding the organization$$s $($note that your interest should be the specific department, location or business unit that is the focus of your study$)$ current and future goals and objectives;

A future focused environmental scan for the organization $($as above $$ your department, location, unit$)$;

Recognizing potential future aspects of importance to the organization;

Application of forecasting and analysis techniques to identify HR demand during your planning horizon;

Application of techniques to analyze the internal and external HR supply during your planning horizon;

An estimate of a HR surplus, shortage or another specific HR planning concern during the planning horizon;

Development of three reasonable options to deal with the predicted HR shortage, surplus or other HR planning issue your forecasting identified;

A thorough evaluation of the three options and your specific recommendation $($related to your forecast$)$ for the organization.

Research Assignment Report Format:

The report should be prepared according to a recognized style manual $($e$.$g$.,$ Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association$).$ Aim for $10-15$ typed pages in $11-$point font $($appendices may be attached; this page limit does not include cover page, table of contents, references, etc.$).$ Your report should include an introduction $($state the purpose and structure of the report; the organization and department, location, unit you are focusing on and your connection to the organization$),$ a conclusion, and a table of contents. Tables and charts should be included in the body of the report. References, including the names and titles of individuals supplying information, are required. Please include a detailed breakdown of each member$$s contributions to the assignment.
