13) What are your major takeaways from this chapter?

The main takeaway from this chapter was an effective leader cannot reply to every situation with the same response. Situations are always changing so a leader needs to learn how to quickly interpret any given situation and then apply an appropriate response. No response will be perfect but there will most likely be a better response available than using the same set of behaviors for each challenge.

Being flexible and learning how to adapt to the environment or situation will position a leader to succeed in the long run, even if adaptation is difficult. Yukl and Gardner laid out numerous situations that will affect a leader such as demands, choices and exposure and each of these could have direct or indirect effect leader (2020). Knowing which situations are beneficial and which should be dealt with quickly will help a leader navigate the uncertainty in today's world and position them to lead teams to greater success.
