1. INTRODUCTION In line with a directive in 2014 by the Minister for the Public Service and Administration, all shortlisted candidates for Senior Management Service (SMS) post must undertake a pre-entry practical exercise as part of the interview process based on the technical and generic requirements of the position that they are being considered for. 2. FORMAT OF THE PRACTICAL EXERCISE The practical exercise takes the form of a PowerPoint presentation on a topical issue that tests the candidates ability in successfully performing in the post. In addition to testing the candidates technical knowledge, the exercise will also test the candidates written communication and presentation skills. The exercise will be scored as an additional criterion in the selection process. Candidates are required to prepare a PowerPoint presentation to questions below. The presentation must not be more than 10 slides with a minimum font-size of 16. 3. PRACTICAL EXERCISE (PRESENTATION FORMAT) a) The Department has weak billing and revenue collection where Water Boards are being owed large amounts of money and the Water Boards in turn, owe the Department. A need exists for the development and implementation of an improved revenue system/strategy with specific revenue improvement initiatives. Please highlight the key initiatives that are required to improve the revenue stream in the Department. b) Supply Chain Management in the Department currently faces major challenges in the sense that the procurement processes are inefficient and time-consuming (including infrastructure procurement - often leading to the Construction Unit running out of supplies and delays in the implementation of projects). In addition, contract management hampers service delivery. How would you go about improving the SCM and procurement processes within the Department? 4. LOGISTICAL ARRANGEMENTS This assignment is sent to the candidates via email at 14H00 on Thursday, 27 January 2022. Candidates are required to prepare a presentation on a PowerPoint template that is provided. The presentation (including both topics) should not exceed 10 minutes and is to be presented during the interview that is taking place on Friday, 28 January 2022.
