The client organisation, called Devon Construction Machines, is a micro company, offering

construction services with different machines $($tractors$,$ trucks, excavators, etc$).$ The current

level of digitalisation in the company is minimal and the CEO is the only person who is more

or less familiar with computers and the basic office software. However, the client plans to

hire more staff and buy new machines, which will make the business environment more

complex. The CEO is looking for opportunities to digitalise some aspects of their business to

improve the efficiency of the business processes, and this is their main business

development objective.

The initial contact with the client revealed that they have practically no IT competence

in$-$house and their IT infrastructure is very basic. The CEO treats IT just as a business tool

and they would appreciate an expert advice on how IT could assist in doing business. The

resources, that the client would like to invest in IT development, are rather limited$.$ The client

defined the focus areas for the investigation, including tracking working hours, calculating

the salary and basic business analytics. The client is definitely not looking for a revolution

but rather a step$-$by$-$step transformation.

One of the main challenges, as described by the CEO, is tracking working hours and

preparing correct bills fortheir customers. The CEO is emphasising that it is not uncommon

for them to forget to prepare some minor bills, which means losing several thousand pounds

yearly. It would also be beneficial to have a more clear picture of how the machines are

used, where, and for how long time. Additionally, the CEO would appreciate having analytics

about the employees, what machines they used, their working hours, and the customer

satisfaction analysis $($if possible$).$ The client would appreciate advice on how to collect the

required data, which tools to use, how to acquire these tools, how to deploy and use them

properly, and how to run the solution in the future. The CEO would be interested in how they

should proceed and what would be the scope and components of the solution.
