Brief description of selected organization

The organization that I select is the one I currently work at,Delaware Valley Veterans’ Home (DVVH). It is a veteran nursinghome, located in northeast Philadelphia, adjacent to the 275-acreBenjamin Rush State Park (DVVH, 2022). The home provides an activelifestyle for the residents. DVVH have been open since 2002, have254 dedicated clinical and professional staff and it has bedcapacity of 171 (DVVH, 2022).

Challenges or opportunities is it facing right now.

One of the challenges facing the home is observing the COVID-19protocol. Since the residents are seniors, they are morevulnerable to COVID-19. Therefore, protecting them from the diseaseis very important. Sometimes the COVID-19 protocol goes against thewishes of the resident and their family since sometimesthey are denied visitation.

Important changes are going on in the sector.

Providing care of the elderly at home. The elderly have betterquality of life when they are taken care at their home(Fulmer etal., 2021). Being close to their family provides anenvironment where they have a better overall wellbeing bothphysical and mental. Telemedicine is another change occurring inthe sector. Instead of patient visiting a healthcare facility. Thephysician visitation is done virtually.

Issues most excited about exploring.

The issues that I am most excited to explore is the applicationof modern technology (internet) to improve the lifestyleof nursing home residents and those visited at their home.
