Partner #1
You are Mr. Tyler. Please put in a pair of ear plugs or turn your volume down on Slype to enact this scenario (adapted from Critical Thinking in Practice in Chapter 40 in the textbook).
Mr. Tyler is waiting in the dining room for lunch to be served. He asks for help deciding on which foods he would like that meal. Mr. Tyler is hard of hearing.

You are the HCA helping Mr. Tyler with his menu choices for lunch. You must repeat the menu options a few times, and Mr. Tyler is having difficulty understanding you. Demonstrate how you will effectively communicate with Mr. Tyler to ensure he has the food choices he desires for lunch.
The menu options are as follows.
Sandwich options: Tuna salad, chicken salad, or cold meats
Bread options: White, whole wheat, or wrap (white or whole wheat)
Toppings: Cucumber, green pepper, lettuce, tomato, hot peppers, spinach, avocado, olives
Cheese: Swiss, marble, white or orange cheddar
Spreads: butter, margarine, mayonnaise, mustard
Desert: chocolate pudding, orange Jell-O, chocolate chip cookie, vanilla ice cream
To drink: Coffee, tea, cream/sugar/milk, orange juice, water
