ON HUMILITY :
Frankl Wells was a Rhodes scholar, an athlete, a mountain climber and the vice chairman of Warner Brothers when Disney approached him and asked him to partner in running the company. In the ten years he ran Disney, the company's market value went from $2 billion to $22 billion.
Usually people recognize Wells's more famous partner, Mike Eisner. But Wells was much more comfortable outside the spotlight, doing the quiet work and giving others the credit.
That's why you may not recognize his name. On April 3, 1994, Wells was in a helicopter crash while on a ski trip. He died at the age of sixty-two. When his belongings were collected, his family found a note that he had carried for thirty years in his wallet:
"Humility is the final achievement." It was his final achievement.
To be humble, you must remind yourself of your deficiencies. Think about where you came from and how far you still have to go. You have to remind yourself with a note in your pocket.
A famous piece of Hasidic wisdom states that you should always carry two notes in your pockets. In one pocket, carry the words, "For me, the world was created.
" In the other, carry the words, "I am but dust and ashes." Your leadership lies between these pockets of power and humility, Enter each day with your head bowed.

ON LEANING IN :
Sheryl Sandberg climbed to the very top of the corporate ladder. She had a supportive upbringing, had an Ivy League education, had ben mentored by the best and brightest and was eventually voted one of the hundred most influential people in the world by Time in 2012. Gender, she predicted, will one day not be an issue in leadership: "In the future, there will be no female leaders. There will just be leaders." She wrote:
"Many people, but especially women, feel fraudulent when they are praised for their accomplishments. Instead of feeling worthy of recognition, they feel undeserving and guilty, as if a mistake has been made. . They really are impostors with limited skills or abilities."
Sandberg in Lean In emphasized that women often hold them" selves back from success. "Women need to shift from thinking. l'm not ready to do that' to thinking 'I want to do thatand I'll learn by doing it."
Learning, wrote Sandberg, is critical to stretching yourself, learning on the job rather than knowing everything before you apply for the job. "There is no perfect fit when you're looking for the next big thing to do. You have to take opportunities and make an opportunity fit you, rather than the other way around. The ability to learn is the most important quality a leader can have."
