In my work experience, involving supporting human resources department, I did come across a SWOT analysis. I had been supporting the department at the school district office for some time and noticed that my opportunity submissions to move into the department came short. I would apply and go through the various steps, it was a union employer, and I had to learn what the barrier was to overcome it. I had been chasing after that opportunity for so long that it became a goal that I want to accomplish. In turn, here is my SWOT analysis. Strength: My strength carries via a few channels. For starters I have an associates degree in human resources management. Second, I have the work experience of supporting the human resources department for five years. Due to work being union, advancement opportunities were hard to come by, especially when there were governing rules for current employees that made competition fierce within as well as competing with applicants who were not current employees. Weakness: My weakness involves my current limitations. Education wise, I only have an associates degree, many applicants had years of experience working in the department which waived the education requirements. In relationship to work experience in the department, holding an actual HR title, I had none. My third weakness was Excel, my kryptonite. It did not have extensive experience with the software, just basic. Opportunities: Although textbook describes opportunities as external factors with no control, I do have opportunities that I can control. The opportunity I have is to expand on my education, skills and therefore increase more opportunities. In this case, I have embraced the opportunity to go after a Bachelors Degree in Human Resources management. It is a challenging journey, but I am whole heartedly after this degree. Further opportunities will open either in the public education or private sector. Threats: Threats are further applicants who already have a bachelors degree or those who have the years of experience working in HR. Further threats arise from opportunities being traded for AI based systems. Albeit the human interaction will be present, there are parts that can be streamlined through technology. I feel that this course will be unlocking a skill set that will help me down the road. It will teach me technology has evolved, how it has been implemented into the workforce and how it will impact my career. I have seen some changes in HR already, however, I see room for improvement and growth. That can become my competitive advantage, adapting to the changing technology while also offering ways the department could embrace emerging technology.
