Definition of an American

After reading through the article What is an American by Crevecoeur my reaction was kind of surprised at first that he thought America was a lot better and filled with hard working people but then I also remembered where he was coming from at the time. I would say that to date his observations are still true, the only thing that surprised me about him saying America is better is because its not where he is from.

Towards the end of Crevecoeurs article in the conclusion something that grabbed my attention and backs the true to date claim is, The American is a new man, who acts upon new principles; he must therefore entertain new ideas and form new opinions. This is saying its like freedom a fresh start and as an American you work hard come up with new ideas and invent things which they were more often in this time. This still holds strong to today Americans work hard, and some people still try to come for freedom and a better life.

If you are to turn on the news and look some people are still illegally trying to cross the borders to get to America for a better shot at life. So even to date Crevecoeurs thoughts hold true, and there is a bunch of new jobs and places opening up around the city for opportunity, I agree with Crevecoeur.
