Please take a look at the video below, which shows a team that is functioning quite poorly. Watch it at least a couple of times, and take notes that will help you answer the assignment question. THE EXTREMELY INEFFECTIVE "TEAM"

THE QUESTION THAT NEEDS TO BE ANSWERED IS IN BOLD DOWN BELOW (please actually answer the question)

The Question: Based on the knowledge you have acquired regarding the topic of organizational behavior since the beginning of the semester, describe the many and varied "mistakes" that are being made by the members of the team. Be comprehensive in your response. Although it is certainly acceptable for you to note the obvious errors that have been pointed out in the video, make sure you dig deeper and note actions that violate principles you've learned from Chapter 1 on. (No, you are not expected to use information from all of the 10 chapters we've covered.)

SUMMARY FROM CHP.1 TO HELP WITH THE QUESTION ABOVE

What is organizational behavior? Organizational Behavior (OB) is the study of human behavior in organizational settings, of the interface between human behavior and the organization, and of the organization itself. Although we can focus on any one of these three areas, we must remember that all three are ultimately necessary for a comprehensive understanding of the organizational behavior. And that is what we'll be doing in this course for the next few months -- focusing on all three of these areas, by discussing many and varied topics (as noted in your course syllabus).

What is the field of Organizational Behavior all about?

OB helps in understanding human behavior and helps in enhancing organizational effectiveness and individual well being

-OB highlights four central characteristics of the field

-First OB is firmly grounded in thoscientific method

-Second OB studies individuals gr description of what OB is allabout

-Third OB is interdisciplinary in nature

-Fourth OB is used as he basis for enhancing effectiveness and individual well-being

Define Organizational Behavior

Organizational behavior (OB) is a field of study that investigates the impact that individuals, groups, and structure have on behavior within organizations for the purpose of applying such knowledge toward improving an organization's effectiveness.

What is management? Good managers get things done effectively and efficiently. To be effective means that you are accomplishing goals that are linked to success for your organization. Doing things efficiently means that you are not using any more resources than necessary in order to accomplish your goals.

My personal definition of management is as follows: the process by which an individual (or a group) coordinates the activities of others toward the accomplishment of a common goal.

As you already know from the management principles course you've already taken (somewhere), management consists of four primary functions: planning, organizing, leading, and controlling -- with this final function relating directly to each of the other three. Controlling refers to the process of checking periodically to see how well you're functioning -- as a planner, as an organizer, and as a leader -- and then making whatever changes/adjustments that are necessary in order to function effectively.

Management takes place at several levels. The highest level of management takes place at the corporate level. But it also takes place at the business level (e.g., for a company such as HP -- the desktop computer division, the laptop computer division, the printer division, the printer ink division), the functional level (e.g., the production division, the marketing division, the finance division), and the operating level (e.g., the departmental level). And it takes place in several different forms (e.g., the CEO, the marketing manager, the first-line supervisor, the baseball manager, the airplane pilot, the department chair).

How are these two related? The answer to this question is pretty simple. One cannot aspire to be an effective manager without having a comprehensive understanding of organizational behavior principles. Look back to the definition of management. In order to be "any good" at coordinating the activities of others toward the accomplishment of common goals, you need to be familiar with (and know how to apply) all the OB concepts listed above.
