PP3 - Pasteur Cheese Factory O points possible (ungraded) Pasteur Cheese Factory is a food company that manufactures industrial processed cheese for use in restaurants in 10 countries across Europe. The cheese they produce comes in 5kg blocks. Unlike "pure cheese" that is made directly from the separation of curd and whey, processed cheese is made from blending curds of different maturities with milk, starch, preservatives and other flavors. This process prolongs the shelf life of the cheese and makes it cheaper and accessible to more customers. Pasteur produces three different types of processed cheese: original, cheddar and wasabi. Each cheese product's selling price is shown below: Original Cheddar Wasabi $20 $15 $17 Each cheese block must go through two machines, in any order, before it is ready to be sold: the x-ray and the checkweigher. The X-ray inspects for defects, holes and impurities in the cheese, then pushes any rejected cheese into a bin. The checkweigher is a separate machine that weighs the cheese block and checks whether it is above or below Skg. The checkweigher pushes any non-conforming cheese into a bin. Because of the huge size of the cheese blocks, each machine runs slowly and carefully. Pasteur has refused to upgrade its equipment to combine the x-ray and checkweighing processes. Due to their old age and high power consumption, the x-ray can only run for 8 hours, while the checkweigher can run for 9 hours. After these times, the machines are no longer usable, else they run a high risk of breakdown (Do not consider Integer programming) The time it takes each product to go through the different machines are as follows: The time it takes each product to go through the different machines are as follows: Product X-Ray Processing Time (minutes/unit) Checkweigher Processing Time (minutes/unit) Original Cheese 8.6 70 Cheddar Cheese 2.2 6.8 Wasabi Cheese 5.1 9.8 The production costs for the two machines are as follows: Machine Processing Time (Dollars/Minute) X-Ray 0.11 Checkweigher 0.22 Part 1 Given the operating times and costs, what is the cost of processing original cheese in the X-ray, in dollars per unit? Give your answer without dollar sign and with two decimals
