Cryptocurrencies have been generating a lot of interest in business circles and the general population in recent years.

At the October 2021 meeting of the board of directors of a fictional Australian financial institution, AusFinz Ltd, the board intends to consider the implications of cryptocurrencies for the company (which is a listed entity).

Specifically, the board wants to address two issues, namely:

Whether AusFinz should consider investing in one or more cryptocurrencies; and

Whether AusFinz should develop specialist cryptocurrency-based financial products including home loans and credit cards.

Required:

You work for the CFO of AusFinz, Khan Tran. Khan has asked you to prepare a research paper for the Board which explains:

The nature of cryptocurrencies;

How they are bought and sold;

How transactions using cryptocurrencies are recorded; and

Whether cryptocurrenices have been adopted for use by any listed companies in Australia or overseas.

Khan would like you to include a selection of public comments made by financial journalists or analysts from financial institutions in Australia about the use of cryptocurrencies as an investment or as a currency for financial products.
