Indications:A 65-year-old patientwith a history of rectal bleeding presents to the ASC for a colonoscopy.
Procedure Description: The patient is given Versed intravenously for conscious sedation. She is brought to the endoscopy suite and placed in a supine position and turned to a left lateralSim's position. The perianalarea is inspected, no palpable masses, no evidence of anal fissure and good sphincter tone are noted.
The colonoscopeis inserted through the anus and advanced to the cecum without difficulty. The lumen of the colon is visualized. There is a 3mm polyp on the mucosalfolds of descending colon which is snared. There is a 5mm polyp in the rectum which is removed in its entirety with hot biopsy forceps. Internal hemorrhoids are present. No source of bleeding was identified.The colonoscopewas withdrawn. The patient tolerated the procedure well.
