Question: Problem 1 [ Required ] : the double angle tension member selected has to resist a service dead load of 3 0 kips and a

Problem 1[Required]:
the double angle tension member selected has to resist a service dead load of 30 kips and a service live
load of 90 kips. The member will be connnected with two lines of 78 inch diameter bolts placed
at the workable gage distances in Table 1-7A of the AISC steel manual. There will be more than
three bolts in each line. The member is 25 feet long and will be connected to a 38 inch thick
gusset plate. Use A572 Grade 50 steel. Design based on LRFD.(Block shear test and bearrung and teraout)
Load Demand
Pu=1.2D+1.6L=1.2(30k)+1.6(90k)=180k
Required Ag:,AgPuOFyAg180K0.9(50ksi)=4in2
Required Ae:,AePuOFuAe180k0.75(65ksi)=3.69in2
Assume U=0.8(there are more than 3 bolts)
Net Area (An)
Try 2L55516
Ag=6.14in2
tf=0.312sin
rmin=2.19in
yielding (0.9)(50ksi)(6.13in2)=276K>180kJ
Fracture An=Ag-2n(dht)
0.756=1-1.35l,l=5.5
U=0.775,l=6
Ae=0.7754.88in2=3.78in2
Problem 1 [ Required ] : the double angle tension
