FireKing is a small manufacturer of rich looking fireproof filing cabinets and wanted to increase its market share of 3%. While the designs were elegant; the cabinets were also the heaviest ones on the market and in peoples minds, this meant the highest quality. However, higher weight meant higher shipping and transportation costs which made them very expensive. FireKing asked the following questions: How can we make our product lighter so as to have a competitive price? However, some executives believed a lighter product might hurt the image of quality.
