When your team first gets together, you are most likely to sit around and look at each other, not knowing where to start. Over time you get to know each other, start to divide labour, assign tasks, and coordinate your work.

Through this process, you begin to operate as a team instead of a collection of individuals. This process of learning to work together is known as forming (first step of team development). The second step is known as storming. During the storming phase, members may disagree on team goals, subgroups and cliques may form around strong personalities. Subsequently, the team performance may decrease because energy is focused on unproductive activities.
