The chosen research design for this dissertation is a convergent parallel mixed methods design. This design involves collecting both qualitative and quantitative data simultaneously and then analyzing and comparing the results. The convergent parallel design allows for the integration of different types of data to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the research problem.[U1]

3.2 Justification for the chosen research design:

The mixed methods design is suitable for this research because it enables the researcher to capture the complexity and multi-dimensionality of the challenges confronting private technical vocational education. By combining qualitative and quantitative methods, the researcher can obtain a deeper understanding of the issues and explore both the subjective experiences and objective data related to the challenges. This approach will provide a more holistic view and contribute to a richer analysis of the research problem.

3.3 Data collection methods:

1. Quantitative Data Collection: To collect quantitative data, the researcher will design and administer structured questionnaires to students, teachers, and administrators in the selected schools. The questionnaires will include Likert scale and multiple-choice questions to measure various aspects such as access to resources, quality of instruction, relevance of curriculum, and overall satisfaction with private technical vocational education.

2. Qualitative Data Collection: Qualitative data will be gathered through semi-structured interviews and focus group discussions. Interviews will be conducted with key stakeholders including school administrators, teachers, students, and representatives from local industries. Focus group discussions will involve small groups of students to explore their experiences, challenges faced, and suggestions for improvement. These qualitative methods will allow for in-depth exploration of the participants' perspectives, motivations, and perceptions related to private technical vocational education.
