Amazon Case Study Organizational Effectiveness This is your personal chance to think about the learnings of this class and write your own individual paper on an organization that we all know well Amazon. It seems Amazon is everywhere. Jeff Bezos started selling books and now it seems Amazon sells everything everywhere. You may like them or hate them but Amazon cannot be ignored. You will write a 8-page, double spaced paper (this is a minimum but longer papers will gladly be accepted) on Amazon. Be sure that this your paper and yours alone. Leave it in the Assignment/ Dropbox. Remember that this is NOT a group assignment so you are totally in charge. Your paper should flow and not contain contradictions. I appreciate your insights and creativity but back them up with references to theories that we have covered in the textbook or in all those academic journals you are reading (yeah right....and citing a newspaper you read online does not qualify!!!) So, back to the case at hand. Amazon is large, multinational and has dealt with change...Jeff Bezos just stepped down to give the reins to Andy Jassy. There are white collar employees who are attracted to Amazon for good salaries, resume reputation and the overall experience. Blue collar workers like the tuition reimbursement and other benefits. But, Amazon is not heaven and has a downside as well. So, is Amazon a cult or a culture? Here are the guide questions but please structure your paper to be logical, creative and well-developed. Bring in other points as you find necessary. 1. Amazon has some stated values that are supposedly central to Amazon's culture. What are they and how does Amazon reinforce-or not reinforcethese core values? 2. How does customer centricity influence Amazon's culture? 3. How does Amazon reinforce and incent innovation? What processes enable this? 4. How has Amazon approached growth-which has been exponentialand how has this affected the culture? 5. How do Amazon's people management practices and values help to retain and recruit employees? What might they do differently? 6. How would you compare and contrast Bezos and Jassy's leadership styles? What impacts have their styles had on the culture at Amazon? 7. You have a meeting with Andy Jassy. What do you feel are Amazon's three greatest organizational challenges and what would you advise? What else would you discuss with Mr. Jassy to improve Amazon's culture and drive employee motivation and satisfaction?
