You are the manager of a Training and Development department in a large corporation. You are responsible for a group of training consultants. Most of the consultants on your team design and deliver classroom training, but you also have two online learning developers. The demand for online learning has increased greatly, so employees are required to develop more courses and be involved in various corporate projects. Based on this demand, you need to hire some new online learning developers, but are not sure how many you need or how their jobs should be designed. You are faced with several things you need to figure out before you request approval for new positions and post the jobs.

You think that the current job design no longer works based on what the employees are required to do$.$ Years ago, when online learning was not as much in demand, there was only one online learning developer and this person was not only responsible for developing online courses, but for providing systems administration and support for the Learning Management System. This duty has continued to be part of the job, but the employees no longer have time to do it$.$ You know that the two employees are struggling to meet demands. They tell you that they are spending too much time troubleshooting systems issues and dealing with system administration instead of working on course development, which is and should be their primary responsibility. As well, there has been a decision made for some graphic artists and web developers from the Communications department to start providing services to the online learning team. This is a good thing; however, you have no idea how this is going to work in terms of workflow.
