My name is Vasyl Ploskanych and I am a student at the University of Texas at Dallas Jindal School of Management studying under the Professional Program in Finance. My interest in business was sparked at an early age when my family moved to the United States from Ukraine. Ever since then I have been interested in learning about all forms of investments including public equities and alternative investments I enjoy problem solving projects with real life business applications which inspired me to compete multiple times in the Securities Analysis Competition at my school. I have learned a lot through cooperation with my team and lots of time researching. My team and I created a PowerPoint presentation and a 22 page equity report presenting an investment recommendation to judges in the finance industry. I am currently an active member of the Mu Rho chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional business fraternity. I am passionate about learning how to become a principled business leader. After completing a rigorous pledge process creating a business plan from scratch, I have continued being an active member of Alpha Kappa Psi and have recently become the Vice President of Finance. It is my goal to actively seek personal growth through quality learning experiences in my studies and work. My experience as a taekwondo instructor has greatly improved my communication skills. Along with communicating to the parents and students, I also have to problem solve in finding the best way to teach to all the different learning styles. I want to transfer these skills into the workplace with an internship, which in turn will help prepare me for my career. I have also worked as a member of an accounts payable team. I have worked with this team over the winter and summer breaks since starting my college career. This opportunity has served as a transition into the accounting field. After working with this team for some time, it has shown to be a great way for me to gain a better understanding of the way accounting works not only in the classroom but also in the professional world. Through this experience, it is helping me to create a network of coworkers that are willing to help when I have questions about the field. With all of the experience and help I gain along the way; I hope to use this opportunity of being on a team to help develop my own skillset as a team member and a collaborator in my future opportunities
