French and Ravens seminal research on power examined the six bases of power: reward, coercion, legitimate, expert, referent, and informational (1959). Since 1959, their original model has changed. Raven reexamined his initial work and analyzed his previous research after critique by other researchers; Ravens findings validate other research on the topic of power. Raven applied his model to real-world settings for useful application in many diverse daily activities.
