THE BEST ENTRY LEVEL SALES JOBS By Thomas Phelps
In a perfect world, your first sales job would pay a six-figure base, offer unlimited income potential via a rich comp plan, have great benefits and be in an industry for which you have tons of passion. But for those who live in the real world and who are looking to land their first sales job, there are some jobs/industries that you should consider starting your career in.
1. COMMISSION BASED POSITIONS
Commission only positions are at the top of this list because those who
succeed at a pure commission-based sales positions are often the highest paid and most successful sales professionals. It takes guts, confidence, and strong work ethic to start your sales career in a position that pays only on your performance, but taking the risk can not only be rewarding but it can also provide you the absolute best sales experience you could ever ask for.
2. INSIDE SALES
Inside sales is not only a fast-growing segment of the sales industry, but it
also one that offers challenges, plenty of training and can be a high paying career. Be careful when considering an inside position, however, as there are many inside positions which will find you doing nothing more than dialing hundreds of people a day and trying to sell (through whatever means) a product or service that fails to deliver on its promises. The reason an inside sales job makes the list of top entry level sales jobs is due to the critical sales skills you will learn. Not only will you be exposed to plenty of rejection (a good thing to get comfortable within sales,) but many inside sales positions are filled with plenty of sales training. And when it comes to sales, you can never get enough training.
3. INSURANCE SALES
The insurance industry is well known to hire inexperienced reps to join
their sales force. Once hired, a new agent will get loads of training and have ample opportunities to work on improving their prospecting, presenting and closing skills. While insurance sales are a great entry to a sales career, it is also a wonderful career opportunity for those who can make it through the often difficult and challenging first few years. Many entry-level positions in the insurance industry are 100% commission based. If you do land an entry level sales position in insurance that includes a base salary, don't be surprised if the base salary is temporary and you will soon be 100% commission based.
4. RETAIL SALES
The internet has certainly had a lasting and profound effect on the retail
industry, but that does not mean that an entry level sales position in the retail world is not worth considering. Yes, your hours will probably include nights, weekends and holidays and no, you probably won't be earning a high income. But you will have numerous opportunities to improve your rapport building skills, closing skills and will learn the value of working long hours. Like every other job listed in this article, many make a long career out of retails sales, enjoy success and earn substantial incomes. Just because a job may be listed on a job board as entry level does not mean it can't make for a great, long-term career.
5. MOBILE PHONE SALES
While most would consider mobile phone sales positions to be entirely
retail-based, several sales positions also have an outside or "B2B" component. This means that you will be selling cellular services, phones, and other vendor- provided services to local business owners. Doing so is a wonderful introduction to the world of outside sales. Selling a product or service that almost everyone wants, needs or uses is a great way to start off a sales career. And in case you hadn't noticed, practically everyone in business uses a cellphone.
