In my role at an e$-$commerce design and development agency, communication barriers are a frequent challenge, especially given our global team composition and clientele. Reflecting on the insights from Sunbalin, A$.,$ & Hafeez, Y$.(2020),$ I've identified key barriers in our context:$1.$ Cultural differences often lead to varied interpretations and approaches, impacting team cohesion and project understanding$\mathrm{.}2.$ Language barriers can create misunderstandings, especially when dealing with technical specifics$\mathrm{.}3.$ Geographical barriers: Lastly, a significant challenge we face is geographical barriers. With a $300-$member team and clients spread worldwide, coordinating across time zones to schedule calls and meetings is a logistical hurdle, often leading to delays and inefficiencies.For instance, in a recent project for uda.com, we had to coordinate with teams across the US$,$ UK$,$ and China. Aligning everyone for meetings was a logistical puzzle due to varying time zones, often resulting in scheduling conflicts and delays. This barrier not only affected scheduling but also hindered real$-$time problem$-$solving and decision$-$making.These barriers, stemming from our diverse global team composition and clientele, demand adaptive communication strategies to ensure effective collaboration. To mitigate these, we implemented staggered meeting schedules and utilized asynchronous communication tools, enabling us to manage time zone differences more efficiently. Additionally, investing time in understanding cultural nuances and employing clear, non$-$technical language has greatly enhanced our team's coherence and project delivery quality, as Sunbalin, A$.,$ & Hafeez, Y$.(2020)$ suggest.Overcoming these barriers is essential in our field, where precise and timely communication is vital for delivering high$-$quality e$-$commerce solutions.
