Reply To: ince I will use a mixed methods approach for my research proposal, both quantitative and qualitative collection methods will be used to gain better insight and a wider range of data. Quantitative methods will include questionnaires, surveys, and statistical data. Questionnaires and surveys can show if there is a relationship of how AI algorithms are used at different stages (pre-trial, sentencing, probation) and across different departments (police, court). Statistical data can include how the AI algorithms are used to provide numerical scores for each variable tested. The data could also be used to determine which algorithm works the best and which has the most risk associated with it. Qualitative methods will include reviewing case studies to provide insight into AI algorithms, as well as connect relevant case studies together. In terms of research, reliability is being able to repeat results, which shows that any conclusions were gathered from consistent methods and data. There are three types of reliabilities: over time (test-retest reliability), across items (internal consistency), and across different researchers (inter-rater reliability) (Chiang, 2015)
