(Post) The problem I am looking to explore is insufficient managerial training and its impact on the cost of compliance. The gap in practice is the failure to recognize organizational risk when training costs are not connected to the organizational risk. In many organizations, individual contributors are promoted to management positions without the proper tools to be people managers. Training is often from observing those senior to them. If one life cycle of managers is not properly trained, those bad habits trickle down to the subsequent leaders.
As a human resources professional at the strategic and operational level within an organization, I spend a lot of my time assessing and combating employment missteps from managers who do not know the impact of their actions when managing their teams. Oftentimes, action is not taken until after litigation or Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) complaints are made.
