In February 2019, Diane and Greg have mixed feelings about the next step that they will take. Greg is Vice President, Sales in a major pharmaceutical company. He has just found out that the Canadian branch where he currently works will be closing and, if he would like to keep his job, he will need to relocate to San Diego California, USA. Upon his arrival, he will assume responsibility for sales in all of North America. Although this is a great opportunity, they are sad to leave their neighborhood in Toronto where he and Diane grew up together. Greg will leave in March 2019, but Diane will not leave Toronto until their three young children finish their school year. They wonder what they have to do with their home. They bought the home from Greg's parents when they downsized. They will be heartbroken if they must sell. They also have a cottage up north which they love and Diane plans to come to it every summer. They have golf and gym memberships and wonder if there are any other implications of their move. They want to take all steps to ensure that they are tax-efficient (and no longer pay income tax to Canada). Explain the impact that your conclusion will have on the tax position or taxes payable (now or in the future).
