How I quantify if my project is worth it is simply based on two things. New sign-ups to T-Mobile, and brand partnership inside of Costco. First, Ill start with the new sign-ups. In 2021 T-Mobile had 1.2 million net postpaid activations. (T-Mobile, 2022). Furthermore, the total revenue from all customers was 58.4 billion. (T-Mobile, 2022). If we take some basic math and divide the 58.4 billion by the number of customers total 108.7 million, we get an average of $537.25 per customer. Not only is this significant in how much a new customer brings to T-Mobile, but it also stops revenue from the other main competitors because the customer is no longer paying for their old wireless carrier. Instead, they are now paying T-Mobile. Secondly, we have a brand partnership with Costco. Costco is known for according to Investopedia, The average Costco employee generates nearly triple the revenue produced by the average Walmart and Target employee. Furthermore, . the average Costco member has a household income of nearly $93,000. This leads to an extremely stable base of members, with retention rates in excess of 91.3%. (Investopedia, 2022) So, not only do customers have greater incomes, but they also tend to not leave. Costco also has little it spends in terms of advertising and its employees are paid higher than the other retailers. Costco also has one of the best return policies in any retail environment because of the lower prices they get. Because T-Mobile is The Uncarrier to me it makes total sense to pair with a brand with a reputation like Costco. 2) A) The variable costs in my budget will come down to whether the company supplying the kiosks provides all the parts to make sure everything is included in the build. For instance, if we are missing phones or security for devices. I would need to overnight ship them to the location so they can be installed or come back at a later time to complete the installation, which will cause more travel and delays for that location. B) I would account for these variable costs by going with a company that will be able to deliver. Unfortunately, theres no exact way to know, but given a budget of up to 70,000/location, Im sure we can find a manufacturer that will provide us with everything we need to build. Also, Im having one of the first kiosks shipped to T-Mobile HQ so we can get hands-on with the installation team and create a guide so they are more familiar with the installation and it can hopefully run as smoothly as possible. That way, if we need to make any changes in the shipping, the design, or to the team, we can go ahead and add those changes before we start construction on 7/24. C) If my variable costs went off the rails, something would have to go terribly wrong. At that point, its either the manufacturer that supplied the materials or its someone on the installation team possibly sabotaging the installations. Now with the latter, we can take corrective action up to termination. I obviously do not want to fire people, but if they are simply not doing the installations, we need to get someone who will. If for whatever reason we had to switch suppliers for the building materials we would have to get quotes to see how fast they would be able to supply us with a completely new design, and I would have to get approval through T-Mobile if thats a route they want to go down. I think, unfortunately, it would not be my call to make. This might delay the project, reduce the number of stores we are able to install in, or have the installation date pushed back.
