I think that the first and main motivator many think of is financial reward. These are referred to as extrinsic rewards, they are given by another person,typically a supervisor,and include promotion and pay increase . Because they originate externally as a result of pleasing others, extrinsic rewards compel individuals to engage in a task behavior for an outside source that provides what they need , such as money to survive in modern society (Pg.229). Some benefits of motivation is employee productivity, and can help people find meaning and joy in their work (Pg.231). I believe that hard work should not go unrecognized, any employee can feel appreciated when simple than you gestures are done by a manager or supervisor, it can make one feel like they are doing a good job and that they see everything you do to provide your little piece of help to an organization. Some good qualities that a a good leader should have is confidence and commitment in what thy believe they can do (Pg.167). Along with this they should have good ethics and morals, it is stated that leaders face many pressure that challenge their ability to do the right thing (Pg,168). I believe being able to keep a balance between what is ethically and morally correct as a person and a leader determines what can affect and benefit the employees and organization they work for. Bad leaders may contain personal weakness and self interest rather than full scale corruption (Pg.168). A good manager should be honest, forward thinking, inspiring and competent. As previously stated in week one we have managers that focus on their office work majority of the time and do the bare minimum to keep their department running and we have others that take pride in their work. We have these in both leaders and managers. Many things play a role in someone taking this position to be good, as stated morals, ethics, attitude to make things happen good relationships between employees and managers/leaders and as well for us the followers to be able to understand and try to help the leaders in being able to perform their duties as well.
