Review Chapter 6(see the "What to Read" tab for specific pages) to help with this assignment. For this assignment, you will turn in one document with two parts: a complaint letter and a product recall letter. Each one should be fully formatted and presentation-ready with proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation throughout.
First, you will make a complaint about a product you have purchased. This must be something concrete (it's very hard to recall a service you've recieved). You need to detail the problem(s), what you've done to solve it, and what you'd like to see as a response. Next, you will pretend to be the manufacturer of that product. After recieving many similar complaints, you have decided to recall the product nationwide. How can people get the remedy you are offering? Remember, as this is a nationwide recall, your letter will be generic; it will not be addressed to any one person.
These two documents will be compiled into one single file and submitted below; be sure to use a page break between pages so each new document begins on a new page.
Please follow these parameters when compiling your documents, and consider carefully the auidence and purpose of this assignment.
Parameters:
COMPLAINT LETTER:
Must include:
All standard business letter parts (see information in the Resources tab)
Statement of the problem, backed up by facts and examples Remember to include the words "excoriate" and "grumpish" in your work somewhere.
Any attempts youve made to remedy the problem or situation
What youd like to see happen to satisfy you and rectify the situation
Be reasonable; a million dollar payoff is not reasonable for a broken $25 product
Your time frame for expected response, but be reasonableremember, this is for mailing via US Postal Service, not email. A one-week response time is not reasonable.
SHOULD NOT:
Threaten or imply that you will report them, sue them, bad mouth them, etc.
Have bad pagination:
IF you must go to more than one page, the second page should include more than just the closing and signature lines
Instead of having just a tiny bit on a second page, try adjusting your font size or margins by 1 or 2 points to get it to fit on one page.
No margins smaller than 1/2"
No font larger than 12
PRODUCT RECALL:
For this part, pretend you are the company that made the product you complained about. After several similar complaints, you have decided to recall the product. Remember, this is not meant to be a reply to the claim letter you just wrote, but instead a NATIONWIDE RECALL for that product. DO NOT ADDRESS YOUR LETTER DIRECTLY TO THE PERSON WHO MADE THE COMPLAINT (whether you or a person you made up).
Must include:
Apology
What your company will do about it
How people can partake of the remedy
Should Include:
Who they can contact and how if they have further questions
What your company will do in the future so this doesnt happen again
Company logo, address, etc. as if you really do work for them
You do not need to cite the source of the company's logo for this assignment.
Be sure you use a HIGH RESOLUTION image so it does not look pixelated or fuzzy and constrain proportions so that it does not squish or smoosh or stretch.
