rewrite The Newfoundland and Labrador System Operator (NLSO) recognizes the value and importance of operating the system consistent with its defined reliability criteria. The NLSO has a comprehensive training program for developing and maintaining competency for its functional entities, such as Reliability Coordinator (RC), Transmission Operator (TOP), and Balancing Authority (BA). The training program includes initial training for new system operators that would perform the functions of TOP, TSP, and BA, ongoing training for all system operators, and shift training programs that will produce the skilled and qualified personnel needed to operate in the dynamic environment of a modern BES. The desire is to develop system operators and shift supervisors who not only know how to follow and carry out procedures but also have analytical skills and effective situational awareness to better deal with the many different scenarios that can present themselves on an interconnected power system
